Juried by Casey Jex Smith

“Over the past year, tech and non-tech workers have been tasked to find ways AI can save money, cut corners, lower headcount, speed up existing processes, create content, and not fall behind the competition. The race to AI supremacy has launched. Its wake has created another layer of existential doom on top of all the existing layers.

While selecting this body of artwork, I’m leaning into my anxiety and fears swirling around this technological leap. I’m attracted to work that sits outside the algorithmic ring of image generators. Work that has an ultra-unique style, shows the hand of the artist, and is too strange for there to be any upside for the machine to learn it. It benefits the artist to have a career that is still emerging and a style that is not marketable. Capitalism and its silicon tendrils have no use for it yet.”
